Why Therapy?

I had a friend ask me once why I was going to therapy. I hadn’t known her for very long, certainly not long enough to dump all my “stuff” on her. So when she asked “Why therapy?” the most comprehensive answer I could give was, “to get it right”. My thinking was that I only had one shot in life to “get it right” to be a great mom, spouse, partner, friend, colleague, teacher, and anything else I aspired to be or do. My daughter was six at the time and I was trying to unpack my own trauma in order to be more present for her. Therapy is by far the greatest gift I have ever given myself.

So maybe the better question is, “Why NOT therapy?”

Services

Women’s Counseling

Women face unique challenges surrounding struggles related to sexism, infertility, parenthood, divorce, domestic violence, and trauma, to name a few. Working with a therapist who is well-versed in women’s issues helps women re-identify their strengths, their passions, and their purpose.

Adolescent / Teen Counseling

Today’s teens are experiencing increased anxiety at an alarming rate, in part due to the pressure to succeed, the influence of social media, and the idea of not feeling safe. As a retired middle school teacher, I have a unique perspective on working with our community’s youth.

Trauma Counseling

No one comes out of this life unscathed. Knowing how to cope with trauma is the best way to build strength and see the possibility of post-traumatic growth. Utilizing research based approaches, I help clients work through their traumas so they can live a more joyful and productive life.

About Counseling

A person’s resiliency and wellness is a very personal journey. For that reason, I pride myself on making the counseling relationship a top priority in the therapeutic setting. My goal is to make sure the counseling relationship is a good fit. Here are some things to expect…..

  • Your initial appointment will be an intake session where I have the opportunity to learn all about you, your goals for counseling, and what you hope to work on.

  • After that, I typically work with individuals between 8 and12 sessions, and then we revisit the goals that were established at the outset of the therapeutic relationship.

  • I am open to feedback throughout the process as this is your journey.

“Let me be the reason you feel seen, heard, valued, and supported.”
